Richmond Gallery Display : photo by Malcolm Aslett

I have visited this gallery several times and love the place. Previous joiners include this one: RICHMOND GALLERY. The collection of photo heres is a series about a collection of objects. A constant thought in my mind on viewing artefacts and information is how little I remember about the stuff I see. Really? Why do we do it? Is it for the momentary pleasure of seeing an object or the odd tidbit of information that sticks or the sense of being part of something greater or...? I took these photos a couple of weeks ago and did the joiner the same day and I can honestly tell you I remembered one and a half of the things in the case when I looked at it today. So the fragmented image represents more than just the temporal relationship of seeing different items and the accidental arrangement of semi-related objects but also carries with it a symbolic representation of my limited recall abilities. The camera was hand held and there is a slight loss of edge detail due to the camera movement in low light. I try to look on this as a feature rather than a flaw. Hmm. As the original is so big it is possible to read the information on the cards below so I could read the information again if I cared to. A photo is a record of accidents and information both real and transient and if this image has any strength it is in that physically realized state. |
